Art of the 20th and 21st century

so world art 1 and two were actually pretty cool but this is the second time i have had to take this art history class and the only way i can think about the art historians writing is “verbal diarhea!”

these authors of this book for this class are so proud about how inteligent they sound when talking about art and it’s cultural context and every person who has ever said anything about art and then what their cousin said and why that’s important. the reading all jumbles together and it tranlates into

BLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! which is a barfing noise but pretty much sums up the spewing of hot liquid out of an orafice that is the content of both volumes of this book,

I’m sure any dialoge between these history-ish/intelectual types and the actual artist would go like

Historian(all snobby sounding): Now what is the cultural relevance of this work of art and what does it mean?

Artist: well ted, it means……………………………….FUck OFF!!!, pay me money, I’m starving and I painted a red square and titled it “not a red square” which makes me a artistic genious, okay, you just wote a book, Buy me a red bull and a sandwhich you uppity art history intelectual sounding prick.

So in the movie, Anti trust the villian guy explains life in the computer business as “binary” in that you are either a 1 or a zero and you are either dead or alive. I thought that this would be a great analogy for a way one should approach the internet. A person should try to figure out if one self is a 1 or 0 relating to either being a positive or negative influence on the internet and how this relates to daoism and the yin yang, this got me all caught up in the philosophy of balance, and how you can’t have a positive without a negative, and you can’t destroy unless you create and all the other junk you can get out of those realtionships.

This is when I realized that my net theory was pretty lame and did not really explain what the internet is. this is when I had an epiphany that the net is fundamentally a massive rubiks cube! in basically that, you know how it starts and you know how it ends, but it is something that you start messing with and keep messing with until eventually you get hooked and you find that you couldn’t stop fucking with it even if you tried and you regret ever picking it up because your hopelessly addicted and you end up kicking across a parking lot. (insert emoticon here)

Eventually I realized that this theory was also pretty lame and had the intellectual quality of a brain dead adolesent with anger management issues. The internet has a ton of really helpful stuff that makes life a lot easier. the internet is connectivity and a super helpful tool to expand learning and one of the best ways to get information in the information age, the only draw back is that the internet is very much like an “event horizon.” Also the internet is very polluted with all sorts of crap like advertising and porn and a bunch of dorks with too much time on their hands. so it becomes like a river of shit and you either have a paddle or you don’t. and you have to swim through the crap to actually get to the pertanant info.

When I tried to nail down what I really thought about the internet and what it was I realized that what I thought changed and adapted like some sub atomic particles on acid, and had a lot to with Fractal geometry and some quantum physics and stuff with a little observational bias too, I feel that a large majority of the entire Nets information are directions on how to get off of your computer and physically go do something that will give you something to talk about when you come back to the net.( add a emoticon) I came to the conclusion that the internet is whatever each person wants it to be, the only problem is there is like a brazillion other people on the net that want it to be something else! i guess the only way you would be able to get control of the net is if you pulled off some sort agent smith move and cloned what you wanted the net to be on to all other servers.

Shouldn’t be to hard, just start by watching the movie hackers, changing your name to zero cool, learning all the code ever, and become a digital Jedi, while being able afford an Internet connection, not be caught by the government, pay for glasses because of the eye damage you get, be all autistic with numbers, maintain a social life to avoid a stereotype, make your parents proud, watch out for terrorists, stay healthy, develope social skills, get an avatar on second life, and work in time to eat some cerial and have fun.
